Yes, I know this one is a few months old but it underscores the fact that there is no patch to secure the user. If you are unsure of the legitimacy of an app it might not be a good idea to install it. Try to stick with shareware aggregate sites like C|Net’s Download.com etc. Even then there is no guarantee malware won’t slip in unoticed…
